You can do it if you'd like however we do not recommend it. We prefer to mount the LED strip down inside the breather can as we show in our photos and installation information. That way the LEDs themselves can't be seen by drivers next to the truck. Also, by mounting them in this location, the glow appears to be coming out of the breather itself vs around the top of it.

NOTE: If you mount them around the top, you're going to need longer LED strips since the circumference of the breather at that point is greater than the circumference of the breather on the inside. You'll need to take some measurements to know for sure how much you need but once you have that information, you can order that specific length using our LOW-PROFILE SURFACE MOUNTED LED product on our website.
