The installation instructions for this product advise not leaving the controller powered on all the time when the RV isn't in use. How you accomplish that is up to you. Technically, the LED CONTROLLER needs 12vdc power to function. As long as the power source is sufficient to power the LED controller when you want to operate the under-glow lights, that's all that's needed to operate the lighting system. That said, some folks will install the LED Controller after the battery shut off switch so the controller isn't powered up all the time when the RV isn't in use. It's a personal preference and depends largely on how you're using your RV (and your house battery configuration). If you're unsure about any of this, we suggest seeking assistance from a licensed electrician who can be on-site to evaluate your particular system.
