For the vast majority of awning lights, you don't need a power converter. All Boogey Lights® controllers and LED strips operate on 12vdc which is readily available on any RV made and offered for sale in North America. Only in situations where 12vdc power is not easy to access would you use a 120vac to 12vdc power converter on an awning light which is why we offer it as an option. If you scroll down on the product page you'll find a detailed discussion about this very topic (listed under 'A WORD ABOUT 12VDC POWER'). If you do decide to use a 120vac to 12vdc power converter, then the size of the converter will depend on the number of LED in the strip and the amperage draw of those LEDs. The specifications tab on the product page provides amperage information based on the color of the LEDs, number of LEDs and power input. Generally speaking, for awning lights of 16' or under, a 5amp converter will work. Longer strips should use the 10amp.
